FIRST THOUGHT: Stop Kicking Yourself

Have you ever tried something new, given up on the idea and then kicked yourself about it? Can’t think of such an occasion? My guess is there is some kind of quirky gadget gathering dust in your kitchen cabinet that acts as proof. Sure, you probably threw away money buying that expensive juicer that’s still crammed in the little cupboard above the fridge. We don’t always become the person we imagined we’d be, like a seven-days-a-week juice queen. But I’m here to say that’s OK.

WOMEN IN NUMBERS: 44,000 Times

Sometimes, well-meaning women can get so upset that we aren’t operating at 100 percent. And what do we do when we feel like we’re not enough? We say we’re sorry. Women often hedge our bets by using words that water down what we really want to say. When you say to your boss, “I’m sorry, I just really need XYZ to do my job,” you’re undermining your importance and, chances are, he’s not going to take you seriously.

It’s something we can all work on, and now there’s an app to help. The Just Not Sorry app scans the work emails you’re composing for those hedging words and phrases like “sorry,” “in my opinion” and “I’m no expert” to help you get the hang of speaking like a true leader. And it’s really catching on. The Just Not Sorry app has been downloaded more than 44,000 times and in 171 countries and counting.

WOMAN TO WATCH: Cindy Battino, Founder of Transformational Healing

We’re looking inward a lot today, and isn’t it difficult some days to figure yourself out? That’s why it’s helpful to get an unbiased opinion from someone who can give you some seriously straight talk. Cindy Battino is just that lady. She is an expert in the field of emotional and physical healing, and an advocate for clarity, peace and hope. Put plainly, Cindy is in the business of helping women find their way.

Cindy’s philosophy involves encouraging a positive, intentional life for her clients. And though she’s worn many hats throughout her career, that tenet has remained key. Cindy began her career in fitness as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer. Along the way, she began exploring and learning about energy work, becoming certified in the healing art of reiki. In 2011, she founded Transformational Healing, a business she says provides “life coaching with a twist.” Cindy works with women to find that thing we all want: happiness.

This healing gal provides a variety of resources, including books, blog posts and programs that focus on the quest for happiness, the quest for a happy relationship, thriving through divorce and the metaphysical journey. Cindy also offers a quick-fix series called Happiness Minis aimed at helping clients find more happiness in 90 seconds or less, so it’s perfect for even the busiest businesswoman.

Cindy says when she writes, it’s often to help herself as much as it is to help others, like her concept about the belief in either/or. As Cindy says, “When we can realize we are in either/or thinking, we can open our thoughts to alternate ways of viewing a situation or finding a creative solution to any problem.”

Cindy is currently working on the second edition of her book Lessons of Life, Love and Trust, and has the goal to provide workshops for at least 10 different nonprofits focused on empowering and supporting women.

Cindy likes to think of business like a cake: It takes exact ingredients and the perfect bake to become a beautiful creation. So be patient with your business and yourself. Whatever your path, that’s wonderful advice for building a life filled with compassion, love and acceptance.

QUITE THE QUOTE

Today’s quote comes from author Kristi Bowman, who said:

“The more we see ourselves as a vibrant, successful, inspiring person who boldly declares and manifests her vision, the more we become just that.”
